The Young Designers Award 2018 | Brief

We are calling on young people across the Island to think of a new way of crossing over the River Medina.Newport Quay sits at the heart of the Isle of Wight and over the next few years it is going to become a busy and vibrant promenade. The river will be lined with new restaurants, bars, places to stay, music venues and student accommodation. All of this new life will mean more and more people will be using the river and they will want to visit all of the new exciting spaces. The problem is that there will be no way to get from one side to the other! We need a new way of crossing over!We don’t mind how you do it - your new link could be for anyone; pedestrians, cyclists, cars, trains, dogs or mice. It can be made from spider’s webs or cast iron, all that matters is that it is an exciting new way to get across. It is important to remember that boats will still need to get past so you should take in consideration having some moving parts in your design.Be as outrageous and creative as you can, anything everything will be considered! All shortlisted entries and winners will be exhibited at the Young Designers Awards ceremony and published in the County Press. This year, there will be an overall winner decided by public vote which will become the brief for real-life architectural practices based on the island to come up with a build-able solution which will have your design at its heart!
