The Young Designers Award | The Bug Building Competition 2021

In previous years, we have run a competition called the Young Designers Award which helps children learn about architecture and the built environment at a grassroots level. Due to a lack of funding the YDA has not gone ahead but have now decided to run a digital competition for children during such a challenging time. We’re asking children sixteen or under to design a bug building – an insect hotel in the shape of your favourite building. There are two ways to enter. Either, draw a picture of your dream bug building or make a model from garden and household waste and submit a maximum of three photographs of it. Both require a maximum of 200 words about the model or drawing (this portion will not be judged, it is just to help explain the design). Then email the entry to yda@mattinsonassociates.com with the subject line ‘The Bug Building Competition’. The winner of the competition will get an eco-friendly bundle and a book on architecture. More information on the competition, a guide, an optional activity sheet, and inspiration pages are available from Sophie at yda@mattinsonassociates.com The competition closes midnight 28th February 2021 and we are so excited to see lots of creative bug buildings!
