st edwards dockhouse

The owners of St Edwards Dockhouse grew up coming to spend family beach holiday’s with their grandparents in the house. It was full of good memories. Seaside was also a bit dated and needed to be ready to entertain a new generation of children coming to have beach holidays on the Isle of Wight. With an Edwardian semidetached street front, cleaned up and refreshed, the home stayed true to its location and compliments the street scene. Modern elements - like the box window in the image above - were reserved for the back of the house.

A new outdoor area with a fantastic outdoor kitchen were created. The downstairs was opened up to improve the flow, and a new kitchen was installed. Bathrooms and bedrooms were all given a makeover.

Mattinson Associates worked with the client to ensure that the architecture and the interiors work together aesthetically and functionally.

“It’s a success in every way: how it looks, feels and how it functions…. Lindsay delivers a high-end product. No one is going to question Lindsay’s skill as an architect and the ability of Mattinson Associates to design you something really cool. She definitely pushed me to consider things that with the benefit of hindsight are much better than if we’d done it the way I wanted to do it.”
